Is Tropical interview

1/ What is it that makes you so good that it convinced Kitsuné to sign you for an album?
We are very serious about making music and i think Kitsuné can see this. It has been great that Kitsuné got involved, they where our choice label. We believe we have similar goals and ideas to the people behind Kitsuné.
2/ What decided you to go with the Parisian imprint? What does it feel like to be their latest protégés?
We don’t want to be pigeon holed as an English band, it’s so different out in Europe, a lot better. There is obvious Englishness to our band but we have another side that can be accepted by our neighbours, and even further afield. They are all a bit cool over at Kitsuné Paris and it’s great to be taken under their wing, good introduction to the world.
3/ London – love it or hate it?
Love it. We have lived here for quite a while and you can’t get bored. Always something going on, great gigs every night. But this also can make the music scene over saturated, numbs the crowd. When we played Moscow the crowd went nuts because they don’t have English band over all the time. Aside from that London has the art, fashion, history, culture and so on that rivals any capital.
4/ Can you explain the whole Shoreditch scene (of which you are part of) to someone who’s never heard of it?
Very strong gay culture. I guess everyone would go to gay clubs because everyone had gay friends, all very open minded and also it was the only nightspots the rude boys and weekenders wouldn’t bother to visit. Everything crosses over in the Shoreditch scene – the bars show art and art performances along side gigs and burlesque shows and so on. It is also very incest, everyone knows each other in the biblical sense and helps each other out with their trade. Cycles change quite quickly and often fronted by the same svengalis. Basically Chris Morris’s Nathan Barley got it down to a t.
5/ Rock vs electro – please debate, who wins?
Rock & electro can be 2 very different things and also the same. I don’t see a real battle. A lot of people get too wrapped up in rivalry. We’re pretty all loving.
6/ I heard you had a bit of a rock’n’roll reputation, can you each describe each other, one after the other, character, personality and a good anecdote?
We like to drink as much as the next man, and fall over a bit but our reputation is flawless
