an anecdote ? story ? The night Michael Jackson died, we were walking in the streets of Pigalle. Everybody was calling out to eachother on the pavement “did you hear about Michael?” “Michael is dead” leaving out his family name to signify the universality of his popularity. We were looking for a bar to hang out and we found the weirdest place in the world. A bodega/tuck shop/grocery that was selling everything you’d ever wanted to buy at such a late hour… A “crèpe” machine was standing in the middle of the room and not far on a desk, a computer was playing loudly the deceased’s singles. So we were in that kind of “bodega/creperie/club”, and everybody was dancing, a can of beer in the hand. We stayed there till dawn, talking with strangers about the next king of pop. We never found that place again, but we have vivid memories of it.
