Lucas Blalock reconsiders and transforms traditional modes of portraiture and nature morte by composing tightly framed instances of illusion and intricate studies of opacity.

By highlighting the materiality and enhancing the earnestness of objects, Blalock’s images hint toward the literal photography of 1960’s American magazine advertising but further explore the elements most inherent to the photographic medium: depth, color, light and texture.
