JERRY’S NEW COMPILATION MIX FOR GOMMA
After my two mixed cds for Kitsuné (BoomBox and Ponystep), I have been working on another exciting project for German imprint Gomma. The Munich-based label has long established its passion for all things funk and disco, bringing a fresh, modern twist to these sounds rooted in the 70s and 80s as well as cultivating an interest in out-of-the-ordinary, arty projects.
For the mix I have used tracks from Munk and Telonius (the respective projects of Gomma’s head honchos Mathias Modica and Jonas Imbery), The Glimmers, Golden Bug, Moullinex, Rodion, The Phenomenal Handclap Band… Many of the remixers are among my favourite artists/producers out there, an international cast that includes Mebourne’s Cut Copy, Berlin’s Headman, Milan’s Cécile, Bruxelles’ Mustang, In Flagranti and Rio’s The Twelves. These Brazilian stars in the making are just about to contribute to the Kitsuné-Tabloid series, by releasing a tasty double cd that offers a mix of exclusive reworks of their own remixes and another one that combines a lot of inspirational tracks, old and new.
Now it must be said it’s uncanny how much Gomma and Kitsuné share a definite artistic middle ground, working with many of the same acts/producers. No wonder they’re my two favourite labels! I just love the way they both invest in colorful, innovative music that’s not scared of being melodic and catchy whilst sounding original – here is the true pop music of today as far as I’m concerned.
The Twelves’ Joao and Luciano brilliantly remixed Munk’s ‘Violent Love’ which features lovely ex-Koko Von Napoo singer/songwriter Clara Cometti. I gave it a little tweak and a bit of a breakdown. There are also reworks of the In Flagranti remix of Golden Bug’s ‘Look Look Look’, ‘Concert Mate’, a Bangalter-ish groover from new French artist Alan 1 and the deliciously italo-trancey (and unreleased) THC remix of Diskokaine’s ‘Hall Of Shame’.
All twenty six tracks have been edited in one form or other, shortened and rejuggled to keep the flow as captivating as possible all the way. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did conceiving it. I want to know when I’m doing my next one for Kitsuné now : )
