Kitsuné Talk : Richard Kern

Richard Kern is a photographer, filmaker and portraitist. The multitasked from New York, does cult art and fashion photography on tropes of voyeurism. The artist is known for shooting girls in a cynical and impertinent way challenging the norms of photography.

The message of Kern’s art seems to be a tribute to freedom. Whether it is the photographer’s freedom showing his obsessions, the poser who exposes her body or the viewers who imagine their fantasies.

To our great pleasure, Richard Kern has directed and bring his own incredible characteristic touch to the new music video of Is Tropical “Lover’s Cave”, which has been revealed yesterday exclusively on Dazed Digital! No wonder, this video will once again shake up your screen…

We interviewed the artist, check out below!

Who inspires you the most currently?

A model named Lou, a singer named Kim, a kid named Fletcher, a writer named Jenny, a photographer named Petra, an editor named Jesse, a producer named Pegah, a painter named Duncan, an archivist named Michael, a chef named Martynka, etc.

According to you, which part of a woman’s body is most interesting to shoot?

For photographs, it’s always going to be the face.

What is the best aphrodisiac for you?

Sometimes it’s a certain smell from a woman (like her hair), sometimes it’s a visual configuration of a woman standing when she doesn’t know i’m watching her, sometimes it’s the touch of a fleshy bottom or thigh.

What are your currently working on?

I’m trying to finish a movie about young women who have been on medication since they were teens.  I plan to show this video along with some photos at a show here in New York in September.

Which person you think best embodies the style of Maison Kitsuné collections?

Liv Tyler around the time she was in “Stealing Beauty” (1996).

What is or would be your favorite Maison Kitsuné piece?

The IS Tropical album “Native To” of course, or maybe Maison Kitsuné x Le Bon Marché 160 Years shirt.

Check out below a serie of Richard Kern’s nice photographs.
