“Dream Amplifier” – Maison Kitsuné Fall/Winter 2018 Men’s Collection
For Fall-Winter 2018-2019, Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki, co-founders and artistic directors of Maison Kitsuné, have drawn their inspiration from geek culture as they unveil “Dream Amplifier”. Classic, preppy silhouettes are “hacked” with masterly superimpositions, ultra-worked details, and unexpected associations of fabrics, colors and prints. The collection plays on the effects of contrast, mixing daring codes with subtle edginess. The look, chic and laid-back, adopts hints of nerdiness while revealing a perfect balance between retro and future, for a wardrobe in uenced by the new technological zeitgeist.
Computer jargon invades certain garments, appearing as a visible label reminiscent of a pop-up window, or on a white cotton sweatshirt. The all-over prints, embroideries and deconstructed space travel patches punctuate looks here and there. Nods to the world of gaming add a playful dimension. The iconic Maison Kitsuné fox has been redesigned as an animated and pixelated character, while shapes, little geometric buttons and contrast over-stitching are interspersed throughout.
Focusing on comfort and protection, this menswear line cleverly combines materials and “techie” finishes with more natural fabrics. The wind-breaker in stripy cotton has been coated and the winter parker has been reinvented in a showerproof technical flannel finished with faux shearling and a hood. As for the color palette, it gives pride of place to greys, greens and burgundy, softened with shades of white and brown. Splashes of light blue, mustard yellow, a range of pinks and reds magnify the looks.
