Galerie Kitsuné is pleased to present ‘Reir y Bailar’, an exhibition by Maru Quiñonero, a Madrid based-artist born in Spain in 1979.
Maru Quiñonero takes notes daily; random words, phrases or ideas that later help herself shape her own creative thinking. Journalist Almudena Ávalos, a personal friend of Maru, is the one who puts this simple idea in the artist’s mind. And it remains there, latent, until she manages to give it a pictorial form. This exhibition displays 21 works that develop a personal vision, a conceptual exercise, on color. A unique search that Maru always pursues through the pencil stroke on paper, her hallmarks.
‘I often defend the theory that inspiration is everywhere, mainly, in the little things. It comes from tiny daily details that fill my routine; in my studio, at home, on a walk, in a conversation. Abstraction also represents the reality that surrounds us. Not figuratively, but it keeps an emotional realism that speaks through a synthetic, minimalist language, and for me, full of color. The fine sensitivity of the palpable translated into a pure chromatic range. That is why color often becomes a structural element in my work, not just a decorative element. Thus, the sixteen colors that make up the Laugh and Dance diptych, and which are also broken down into the smallest works, are the colors that embrace a precise moment, a shared memory. Here there are no great pretensions, nor elaborate rhetoric that speak solemnly about art. I don’t want to justify my work. Laugh and Dance evokes an intimate moment, not a private one, in which you connect with your interior, listen to your favorite song, let yourself go, start dancing and smile to yourself because it feels good, because you don’t want to be anywhere else. And you do your best, because maybe there is nothing more serious than laughing and dancing.’

Galerie Kitsuné is pleased to present ‘Our Black Experience: Stories from Black Women Photographers’, an exhibition by new-york collective Black Women Photographers.
‘The Black experience is one of a kind. Our voices have been silenced for centuries, but now we are taking control of our narrative and how we are viewed. ‘Our Black Experience’ showcases four Black Femme-identifying photographers in the New York City area, each with a story that represents their experience and how they view their femininity.
These artists and their work are a culmination of beauty, triumph, the everyday, and ultimately how they view the world through their lens.’

Galerie Kitsuné is pleased to present ‘We have no purity in the dark’, an exhibition by Beijing based artist Lin Zhipeng.
For his first solo exhibition with Galerie Kitsuné Kitsuné Gallery in New York, Lin Zhipeng presents with Jérôme Sans, curator of the exhibition, a selection of 37 photographs realized between 2010 and 2022 that pursue his interrogations of Chinese youth in all its complexity: the dynamism and vulnerability of counter-cultures in facing the power of traditional conservatism, rooted in the universal experiences of love, solitude, joy or melancholy.
With Lin Zhipeng, everything is tinged with a resolutely pop seduction. The colour, the shapes, the textures, the framing used are all symptomatic of a visual culture rocked by the flow of images, bodies and symbols that have marked our entry into the second millennium. Far from the traditional and unconstructive criticism of an ‘overconsumption’ or ‘saturation’ of images, those of the artist celebrate the vitality of his generation, starting with the staging of his life and that of his entourage. Mixing love and chaos, fantasy and eroticism, his photographs act as the collective poetic diary of a generation eager to escape social pressures and to aspire to the pleasures of life in a society that is as indifferent as it is rapidly evolving.
‘Feed’ in perpetual mutation sometimes documentary, fictional or conceptual, the photographs of the artist pose recurring elements of a voluntarily eclectic practice: portraits or landscapes with flash, nocturnal and aquatic photographs, nudes, still lives or animals are superimposed, combined or even merged. Whilst the core of his practice remains marked by the nude, both female and male, his recent work shows the development of a pictorial research that explores all forms of life. Human, vegetable, animal or object compose together a philosophy of transposition and empathy. In this sense, the artist states: ‘Humans and all things in the world are equal, and human bodies and natural things are also equal. Just like humans, fruits, flowers, and animals have their own vitality, and they will experience growth and decline until death and disappearance. I hope to compare the vitality of animals and objects to the human body, which possesses certain thoughts and emotions.’ Beyond that of an entire generation, it is vitality as energy or as a fluid reality that the artist captures.

https://AliceHawkinsxGK.splashthat.com« Imagined Realities » an exhibition by Alice Hawkins
Galerie Kitsuné is pleased to present ‘Imagined Realities’, an exhibition by British artist-photographer Alice Hawkins.
In ‘Imagined Realities’, Hawkins presents cinematic large-format photographic portraits made across America and Europe – including some of Maison Kitsuné ‘Daytime Tails’ capsule collection by designer Olympia Le-Tan campaign. For twenty years, Hawkins has worked between the worlds of fine art and fashion photography, exhibiting in art galleries alongside publishing in journals like Vogue, Love and Pop. Across the last twenty years she has created portraits in five continents, with ‘the audacity that photography needs’, in Nick Knight’s words.
Hawkins creates portraits in the truest sense of the term. She only shows us people who achieve complete individuality, and whose distinctive identity is unmistakable. Her works are paeans to the brave, the bold, and the beautiful amongst us: those individuals who brazenly hold and present themselves to the world. Hawkins describes her role as to encapsulate and celebrate their unabashed sense of glamour and their uniqueness: their larger-than-life selves. For both Hawkins and her sitters, ‘all the world is a stage’.
Hawkins exploits the promise of photography: its capacity to seduce. Her works inhabit a spirit of adventure and exploration and of encounters with strangers who are extraordinary and glamorous. This imaginative world is of a demi-monde of sun-kissed swimming pools and frou-frou hotel rooms – occupied by women confident in their selves and sexual identities. Each sitter inhabits an alluring ‘cinematic time’, as if in a parallel universe where women have a bodily autonomy not yet possible, or even thinkable in our own.

Galerie Kitsuné is pleased to present ‘Stretched’, an exhibition by Imruh Asha, a Paris-based artist, creative consultant, and fashion director at Dazed Magazine.
Pulling from his Dutch-Caribbean roots, Imruh has a bold yet refined take on storytelling through fashion and art. Known for his fashion stories rife with a vibrant and eclectic use of color, structural silhouettes and a mix of textures and movement, Imruh often addresses themes of spirituality, social character, and the role of community.
Through ‘Stretched’, Imruh presents five sculptures commenting on one hand the idea of feeling othered depicted by the physical manifestation of a person stuck behind a wall, and on the other the movement and the beauty of our access to color. All five sculptures were crafted in partnership with Le Chemin Des Maquettes, a revered Parisian atelier. They are accompanied by a photo series of Imruh Asha’s Paper Monsters created by imposing robust paper forms onto fashion models making a satirical comment on the overthought nature of creating a fashion image. Imruh Asha’s Paper Monsters were photographed by Osma Harvilahti.

Galerie Kitsuné is pleased to present ‘It’s ok to cry’, an exhibition by Pepo Moreno, a Paris-based artist, born in Spain in 1985.
‘It’s ok to cry’, the solo exhibition of new work by artist Pepo Moreno, is dedicated to everyone who was forced to build emotional walls around themselves as a child. It acknowledges this process as a necessary and desperate act of self preservation from the persistent hatred, pain and mockery that went hand in hand with being an outcast. It is also a reminder to all of us adults who have survived and even flourished, despite all those experiences that encouraged us to loathe ourselves.
Invoking repetition and naïveté as well as a bold use of color and gesture, Moreno created this body of work while visiting his hometown in Southern Catalonia–returning to the places where he was first bullied as a queer kid, where he began to reject his own identity and isolate himself. Moreno’s work encourages dialogue around mental health; emphasizing that acknowledging and articulating personal trauma is a crucial step in the healing process.
We can – we must – cry. We owe it to the children we were and to the adults we have become. We need to think of crying as something to embrace as an act of self-care. We could maybe then change the perception crying – no longer just an act of grief, but rather as a journey into our deepest, most honest manifestation of joy.

Galerie Kitsuné is pleased to present “Haptic Memory”, a group exhibition by Stroll Garden. Curated by Los Angeles-based gallery Stroll Garden, « Haptic Memory » features vessels by ceramic artists Jane Yang-D’Haene and Raina Lee.
D’Haene and Lee are united by a connection to classical Korean and Chinese ceramic silhouettes — objects that populated both artists’ childhood homes. D’Haene’s works were specifically inspired by Baekja (white porcelain ceramics) and celadon bottles. Some were displayed as treasures while others, purchased from the local market, were used for serving drinks. Lee grew up around Chinese antiques and reproductions; her pieces are a nod to such classic shapes as the Meiping, the Garlic Head, and the Lotus Bud.
In reinterpreting traditional forms, the artists engage with both history and their own pasts. For the two artists, hand-built classical forms serve as a vehicle for bold exploration of material and texture. Both experiment with glaze chemistry and natural compounds to achieve sculptural, unexpected surfaces and unique colors.

Galerie Kitsuné is pleased to present “True Beauties”, an exhibition by Myles Loftin, a Brooklyn-based artist, photographer, and storyteller.
For “True Beauties”, Myles Loftin presents a selection of intimate portraits of figures from the original house of ballroom, The Royal House of LaBeija. Despite attention in mainstream media over In the past few years, the general public’s understanding of the previously-underground world of ballroom ends with the 1990 documentary Paris is Burning. With this project, Loftin draws attention to the thriving contemporary ballroom community, which continues to have balls every week, with people traveling from across the country to compete.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Part of the new vanguard of image makers, Myles Loftin is an artist, storyteller, and creative collaborator based in Brooklyn but very much on the world’s radar. Brands like Calvin Klein, Converse, GCDS, Nike, and Under Armour commission him for ad campaigns, and publications like Paper, The Cut, Garage, i-D, and The Fader turn to him for editorials that resonate with discerning audiences.
Myles’ work, known for an often playful sensibility and an intimacy that unite viewer and subject, is driven by his desire to show up for underrepresented and misrepresented groups—because as a queer Black man, he knows the power of visibility. “We look to the media for ideas of what our future can be,” says Myles, “and if you don’t see yourself represented, it’s very hard for you to imagine a future for yourself.”
