BeatauCue’s photo report of Tokyo!

On the occasion of Summer Sonic, BeatauCue were in Tokyo for one of their very energetic live. But they also took time to visit Tokyo a little bit more and took beautiful pictures with their  Nokia Lumia 925 so they could share their trip with you! Here you are!

The Brilliant Photographer Dylan Forsberg

Ex-model and friend of Henrik Purienne, the New York-based photographer Dylan Forsberg knows what it’s like to be on the other side of the camera. The photographer seems careful to convey a sense of sensitivity while shooting lovely ladies and oddball streets and landscapes.

Multi-talented, Dylan Forsberg has also designed a clothing line, “Where I Want To Be”, for the American store Madwell. Recently, he has launched a magazine, Transmission in which he tells us the story story of his life with poetic pictures.

His work has a real analogue, retro tinge that breathes a lot of personality. There is a lot of natural beauty, highlighted with natural light in his work.

Dylan Forsberg

Maison Kitsuné has interviewed him, discover below the whole interview of Dylan Forsberg and a serie of his photos.

When did you start taking photos?

I started shooting about 5 years ago. It all began as a Christmas present to my mom. I couldn’t afford to get her anything, so as she’s widowed, I took pictures of her to use on a dating site. When I got back to NY, I was hanging out with my friend Hanne Gaby and told her the story. She said we should shoot, everyone liked the pictures, I posted them to the internet… and luckily they spread.

You were model before going behind the lens, what this experience brings you?

I guess the best benefit to modeling was that through it I made friends with other modes who I started my career by shooting. Beside that, I knew how frustrating it can be to not know what’s expected of you as a model. I saw that when the photographers I worked with got discouraged, I got discouraged, and lost the confidence necessary to do my best. Now when I shoot, I direct the model in a way that always keeps them feeling like they’re doing a great job.

Could you tell us more about the magazine you have created, ” Transmission”?

Transmission is everything to me. It like I’ve cut open my heart and bled it to paper. It involves my photography and writing as well as work I find from my favorite artists around the world. I shoot my closest friends intimately and naturally to show that they’re beautiful without makeup and retouching. The writing I’ve included is written as honestly as possible about the most important moments of my life… some things I’ve never even before shared with friends. Basically I hope that by opening up and being honest, I’ll encourage others to do the same.

Why you have chosen the name “Transmission”?

The name “Transmission” came about because I’ve always liked the trans prefix which means across, beyond, or through. Transmission is all about sharing and moving from one place to another, always moving.
I’ve actually just launched a Kickstarter to help fund the 2nd issue of the magazine. There isn’t much time left to donate.

You have designed a clothing collection for Madwell. What would you like to design for Maison Kitsuné?

I have a ton of ideas really… it’s been a while since I’ve used clothing as an outlet. I’ve been working on some really beautiful over-saturated pieces… let me know if you’re interested.

The Pretty Fashion Stylist Lilli Millhiser Interviewed And Shot For Maison Kitsuné

Lilli Millhiser is a pretty New York girl, living the dream working along side celeb fashion stylist Kate Young! When she’s not busy finding red carpet gowns for the likes of Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams, she’s out enjoying the Big Apple to the fullest.
For our great pleasure, Clément Pascal photographed her, wearing Maison Kitsuné fall/winter 2013 pieces, and we interviewed here.
Discover the interview and serie of pictures!
What is your idea of fashion and style?
I remember reading an interview with Mary – Kate and Ashley Olsen in Interview and they said that they thought that women wanted to feel comfortable, chic and understated and I couldn’t agree more.
Who inspires you the most?
I don’t think there’s one particular person or thing, but I’m always looking. I’m constantly reading, looking at magazines, going to museums and galleries and watching people on the street. I studied art history in college and I think that’s the best background for what I do.
What are the best matching items in an outfit?
I’m very much a jeans and a worn in t-shirt type of girl, so I’ll say that. With a pair of heels.

What is your favorite Kitsuné clothes to wear on?

The sweatshirt I got to wear for the photos was awesome – love that it’s so casual with the cool embroidery.

If you were designing something for Kitsuné, what would it be?
Hmmmm….that’s hard. A cape might be nice. In navy…

Kitsuné Talk : Richard Kern

Richard Kern is a photographer, filmaker and portraitist. The multitasked from New York, does cult art and fashion photography on tropes of voyeurism. The artist is known for shooting girls in a cynical and impertinent way challenging the norms of photography.

The message of Kern’s art seems to be a tribute to freedom. Whether it is the photographer’s freedom showing his obsessions, the poser who exposes her body or the viewers who imagine their fantasies.

To our great pleasure, Richard Kern has directed and bring his own incredible characteristic touch to the new music video of Is Tropical “Lover’s Cave”, which has been revealed yesterday exclusively on Dazed Digital! No wonder, this video will once again shake up your screen…

Richard Kern’s portrait

We interviewed the artist, check out below!

Who inspires you the most currently?

A model named Lou, a singer named Kim, a kid named Fletcher, a writer named Jenny, a photographer named Petra, an editor named Jesse, a producer named Pegah, a painter named Duncan, an archivist named Michael, a chef named Martynka, etc.

According to you, which part of a woman’s body is most interesting to shoot?

For photographs, it’s always going to be the face.

What is the best aphrodisiac for you?

Sometimes it’s a certain smell from a woman (like her hair), sometimes it’s a visual configuration of a woman standing when she doesn’t know i’m watching her, sometimes it’s the touch of a fleshy bottom or thigh.

What are your currently working on?

I’m trying to finish a movie about young women who have been on medication since they were teens.  I plan to show this video along with some photos at a show here in New York in September.

Which person you think best embodies the style of Maison Kitsuné collections?

Liv Tyler around the time she was in “Stealing Beauty” (1996).

What is or would be your favorite Maison Kitsuné piece?

The IS Tropical album “Native To” of course, or maybe Maison Kitsuné x Le Bon Marché 160 Years shirt.

Check out below a serie of Richard Kern’s nice photographs.

Kitsuné Parisien 3: Saint Michel "Don't Bother"

Don’t rely on their seaside pseudonym, the duo Saint Michel doesn’t really come from the bay, their true hometown is Versailles. And this cradle of qualified French electronic music, which has already seen Phoenix and Daft Punk grow, seems to bring them good luck!

Philippe Thuillier and Emile Larroche, members of Saint Michel make Versailles proud again with their inspired aural poetry. More tormented souls in search of eternal love…

One of their best tracks “Don’t Bother” is featured on our Kitsuné Parisien 3 compilation so we interviewed them on their Paris favourite places and future plans.

Get Kitsuné Parisien 3 compilation, on our webstore, on iTunes or on Qobuz  listen to the compilation on Youtube HERE.

What does Paris represent for you?
P: According to me, it’s like a giant fuel pump.
E: A kind of supply point, like a sailor who returns to his marina.

Paris, in three essential places?
Versailles, our 21st district where we work and where I live (Philippe), the 11th district, where I have always lived (Emile), the 9th district, between Rodier street and Douai street because there’s a lot of music stores, concert halls and the Pizza di Loretta!

Revoir Paris” by Charles Trenet.

Your favorite track from the two last editions of the Kitsuné Parisien series?
Those Words” by Kit.

Kitsuné Parisien III: FAUVE "Kané"

The guys from FAUVE may not be that furry, but they yet have the fury of a lion when it comes to music!
The five-piece band likes to think of itself as a collective open to collaborations and digs the introspective folk road. Don’t think boho though, these boys are on the frontline.

As their beautiful track “Kané”, which enthused the web, is featured on the new Kitsuné Parisien 3, we asked FAUVE a few questions about their favorite Parisian places and their forthcoming plans.

Watch the video for “Kané” here !

What does Paris represent for you?
– Honestly, Rohff has already said everything in his song “Paris“.

Paris, in three essential places?
– It’s quite hard to find an agreement … Scarfood restaurant, in Pigalle, for their kebabs sandwiches, the Faubourg Montmartre street disguise shops, because they have the best chicken costumes and the Seine banks in the Summer, for the sun and the Amsterdam Maximator beer (did we say no brand quoting?).

The song that describes Paris the best according to you?
– Taxi Girl’s track “Paris“.

Your favorite track from the two last editions of the Kitsuné Parisien series?
– BeatauCue’s track “Behold“on Parisien I.

What’s next for you?
– Do more live shows outside Paris. Escape from this city!

Surf Land By Joni Sternbach

You can forget the basic image of surfing under a heavy sun and a beach of soft sand. The photographer Joni Sternbach heads down to Long Island, where New Yorkers and eastern people goes to surf in a place ravaged by the sea and that seems abandonned.

With an antique 8×10 camera, tripod, umbrella, folding table, portable dark box, and a cooler full of chemicals, the artist creates his tintype portraits . Passionate by desertic landscapes and the sea, the photographer found the perfect spot in Montauk’s ditch plains.  It looks like the time has been freezed, that those pictures could have been taken 50 years ago as they can have been taken yesterday.
