Inspired by his homeland of South Africa, his journey through the UK and eventual relocation to Brooklyn, St Lucia could reference the sonics of Temper Trap, or the infectiousness of Empire of the Sun, but ultimately it is a wall of atmospherics crafted with an inordinate amount of time-consuming precision.

His track “Before The Dive” is featured on our new compilation Kitsuné AMERICA.

You can buy Kitsuné AMERICA on our webstore or on iTunes Europe US, Australia and Japan !

Watch “Before The Dive” video directed by Elliott Sellers

His top ten American tracks
Fleetwood Mac – Gypsy
Chairlift – I Belong In Your Arms
The War On Drugs – Baby Missiles
Hall & Oates – You Make My Dreams Come True
Madonna – La Isla Bonita
Tina Turner – What’s Love Got to Do With It?
Twin Shadow – I Can’t Wait
Destroyer – Chinatown
Stevie Wonder – Part Time Lover
Prince – I Would Die for You

His list of 10 things you need to do see in New York
1/ For great, actually amazing coffee, my favorite two places are Blue Bottle Coffee Company in Williamsburg, and Abraço in the East Village. Blue Bottle often has crazy lines, so go with some time to spare.

2/ Have a burger at one of the many amazing burger places. My favourite is Dumont Burger on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg.

3/ It’s good to experience the subway, but the best way to discover New York is on foot. Just walk around for a few days and speak to some of the locals and you’ll feel a lot more connected to what’s going on around you. Definitely walk the highline.

4/ The touristy stuff like the Empire State Building and Times Square are important to see, but try to spend as little time doing super touristy stuff as possible.

5/ Go see some of the local bands. New York has a pretty amazing music scene, and there’s loads of stuff going on all the time. In the summer there are loads of free concerts all around the city, and some amazing ones in Central Park and Prospect Park, as well as governors island.

6/ Don’t only go to flashy restaurants. Some of the best places to eat are holes in the wall, a great example being La Superior in Williamsburg, which makes the best Mexican food in the city by far, in my opinion. You might have noticed that I’m totally biased towards the food in Williamsburg, but it really is that good. Actually, in general the food in New York is amazing, and you wouldn’t be doing anything wrong if you spent most of your money on it.

7/ Definitely check out some of the museums. The MOMA and Metropolitan Museum of Art are both incredible. Obviously the Guggenheim is a really special building, which you really have to experience. Also, if you go there, take the elevator to the top floor and start there, which is apparently how Frank Lloyd Wright intended it.

8/ Another really good way to get to know the city is on a bicycle, especially if the weather is good. There’s loads of bike lanes in the city now, and there’s a bike path that basically encircles almost the whole of Manhattan, which is awesome because you get to ride next to the water.

9/ If you’re in New York during the summer, take a trip out of the city. A lot of people don’t know it, but there are some really awesome beaches not too far away, and some pretty unspoiled nature in the Catskills, which is only a couple of hours away.

10/ Basically, you need to just discover New York for yourself. There’s all sorts of things going on all the time, and if you just follow your intuition, and keep an open mind, you’ll generally always run into something at the very least interesting.

St. Lucia is what happens when the long and bleak winters of New York recede and summer emerges; giving birth to memories of childhood holidays,…
