Hannah Cohen was born in San Francisco and comes from a family of poets, ministers, musicians, broadcasters and booksellers. Her grandfather, Bertie Rodgers, was a lauded poet, BBC broadcaster and good friend of Dylan Thomas. She left home as a teenager to work as a model, soon finding herself in New York and becoming over the next few years something of a muse to the city’s art scene, posing for Richard Prince, Terry Richardson, David Salle, Will Cotton, and Ryan McGinley. Her first book of photography, “Fotografias. Brasil”, was published in early 2012.
\nHannah also immersed herself in New York’s music scene, working at the Village Vanguard, And quietly, privately, she started teaching herself guitar and writing songs.<\/p>\n
What are the things that inspire you the most?<\/p>\n
Space and time. Being alone.<\/p>\n
What is your idea of beauty and style?<\/p>\n
It changes for me all the time. Sometimes less is more and other times I can’t get enough. I’ll see someone’s hair that makes a little ducky swoop at the nape of their neck and it will make me feel like I’m going to cry, not because it upsets me but because it is so beautiful and simple and out of their control. I think mistakes are beautiful.<\/p>\n
What are your plans for the summer?<\/p>\n
I hope to be playing music as much as possible and touring. That’s all I really want to do always.<\/p>\n
Something you always carry with you when traveling?<\/p>\n
I like to carry a lot of things, sometimes being a bag lady is really great. Always will find in my bag -Golden berries for snacking, lip\/cheek stain, under eye cream, ipod and headphones.<\/p>\n
What kind of projects do you work on currently?<\/p>\n
Working on a new record , writing new songs that will hopefully make people cry and smile at the same time.<\/p>\n
