First time I heard about it, I think it was a while years ago in Japan. I was traveling, I was in music industry with a friend of mine, who\u2019s actually supervising music on my films.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><em>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.allocine.fr\/film\/fichefilm_gen_cfilm=220810.html\">Stop The Pounding Heart<\/a>&#8220;<\/em><\/strong><strong> is the third film you have shot in Texas. Why\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">My exploration of Texas as a microcosme represents America today with a lot of contradictions, as religious fundamentalism, guns, culture\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/validation.maisonkitsune.bird.eu\/mk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/thumb8.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-35852\" title=\"thumb[8]\" src=\"https:\/\/validation.maisonkitsune.bird.eu\/mk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/thumb8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>One of your protagonist has a \u00ab\u00a0Texas boy\u00a0\u00bb written tattoo. What is exactly a &#8220;Texas boy&#8221; ?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A Texas boy is a boy who has a very hard skin because that\u2019s how a man has to be in Texas. So, in a way, a Texas boy it\u2019s a confident yet scared at the same time boy. And perhaps that\u2019s what\u2019s makes Texas boy similar to the other boys everywhere: being frightened while looking confident.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Your movies are always about a young generation, here it\u2019s a portrayal of two adolescents: Sara and Colby. Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What interested me about young people is their emotional immaturity, their vulnerability, which embraces a possible manipulation. My young protagonists are potentially young adults, they\u2019re adolescents. They\u2019re motivated by life and death reasons, love and hate reasons&#8230; It\u2019s a survival instinct which makes them move in several directions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/validation.maisonkitsune.bird.eu\/mk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-2013-05-17-\u00e0-12.52.36.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-35851\" title=\"Capture d\u2019\u00e9cran 2013-05-17 \u00e0 12.52.36\" src=\"https:\/\/validation.maisonkitsune.bird.eu\/mk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Capture-d\u2019\u00e9cran-2013-05-17-\u00e0-12.52.36.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"248\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>What means this title &#8220;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allocine.fr\/film\/fichefilm_gen_cfilm=220810.html\">Stop The Pounding Heart<\/a>&#8221; ?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The title comes from a sentence, something that the mother tells to Sara, the young protagonist. When she prays God, it\u2019s to control her feelings. But for me, obvioulsy, &#8220;<em>The Pounding Heart&#8221; <\/em>is the heart which beats fast because of love and fear, which are almost the same two flips of the same coin. For me, &#8220;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allocine.fr\/film\/fichefilm_gen_cfilm=220810.html\">Stop The Pounding Heart<\/a>&#8221;\u00a0<\/em>is an illusion, illusion given by religion, to be able to control adolescents emotions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Your protagonists, Sarah and Colby, two teenagers, want to have fun. What is the definition of fun, for them\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It\u2019s hard to say. How to have fun\u00a0? How being yourself\u00a0? It\u2019s having fun without getting hurt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>If I ask you to define me in one sentence what\u2019s about your movie &#8220;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.allocine.fr\/film\/fichefilm_gen_cfilm=220810.html\">Stop The Pounding Heart<\/a>&#8220;<\/em>\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It has to have something to do with how to be good and be yourself at the same time. I feel that my work and my mission is more about report what people live. At this stage of my career and life, I\u2019m not particularly interested in something completely fictitious, written on paper, which needs to cast actors to interpret it. I\u2019d like to represent what I see in reality.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>How old are you\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I\u2019m forty two.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><\/strong><strong>How to define your style of movies? It\u2019s not completely a documentary, neither fiction, so\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I don\u2019t know. I represent what I see. The territory which I plan to see in my films is between reality and fictitious art form.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Young bodies are very important in your shooting way, why\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">My opinion is that there&#8217;s something very tactile in my film. Are you interested by directing video clips?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I did it, an electronic music duo from Germany called <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/funk261\">Funk St\u00f6rung<\/a>, was interested by my way to shoot, so they rebuild <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cYtIi1MuoA0\">an electronic video<\/a> based on the footage that I had. Since then, I had opportunities of doing which I&#8217;d definitely accept but I made it clear that I&#8217;d treat music videos as a film, as shorts stories. I would do it as mini films, not just a support for the music. The single which I made <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cYtIi1MuoA0\">the video named &#8220;Disconnected&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>What are you currently working on\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I have two projects actually. One with a fisherman and maybe another one with Mexican emigrants in America. It\u2019s about teenagers, and physicality again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>What represents Cannes for you\u00a0?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cannes is very important. It will be a great test for me to see how people respond to my work.
