Bloc Party is an independent British alternative rock band from Essex. Formed in 2002 around singer Kele Okereke, the band is inspired musically by the Smiths, Joy Division, Sonic Youth, The Cure, Mogwai, Talking Heads and in Radiohead's most recent work. The band became known at the end of 2004 with two successive EPs (Bloc Party EP and Little Thoughts EP) which were all the rage in British and European clubs thanks to a new style of punk rock.
